Fire Chief Mark Schollmeyer joined the volunteers and was a great fit ! With the exceptional training with the Volunteers he easily became a Brevard County Fire fighter moving up their ranks to BCFR Chief. We offer a range of volunteer opportunities.

MIVFD Requirements
- Be a High School graduate or equivalent
- Pass a background Check
- Have a Good Moral Character
- Be in good physical condition
Application Process
- List current certifications if any
- Applicant must reside within a 25 minute response time to Station 41
- To be insured with the Brevard County , all Recruits are Required to go through the application process
- To receive a Merritt Island department application recruits need to attend a minimum of three trainings/meetings in a row.
- MIVFD completed applications will be read and approved in a MIVFD business Meeting
- Recruit to submit DMV license along with Brevard County Fire Rescue application including all requirements
- Once application is reviewed, a preliminary background check is completed
- Interview to be set up with MIVFD Officers
- Drug Test, fingerprints and final background check are then ordered
- After passing the Drug Test and background check the MIVFD Fire Chief will approve the application and submit it to the Brevard County Fire Rescue for Final approval
- Once Approved, the recruit transitions into a Probationary Member
Then the Probationary member will be able to start attending classes and working on Certifications!!
